The six-episode summer series will feature current hitmakers and classic artists performing songs from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

ABC is diving back into the music world for its latest unscripted effort.

The network has ordered six episodes of the new series Greatest Hits for a summer launch, it was announced Wednesday.

The series, hosted by Arsenio Hall and country singer Kelsea Ballerini, will see iconic artists as well as current hitmakers take the stage to perform memorable tunes from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

The episodes will feature special solo performances, never-before-seen duets and tributes. Greatest Hits is set to launch Thursday, June 30, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

From AEG Ehrlich Ventures, Greatest Hits will be executive produced by Ken Ehrlich, James McKinlay and Raj Kapoor. Leon Knoles will direct, and David Wild will write and produce.

For his part, Hall most recently hosted a syndicated late-night talk show that ran for one season. Ballerini, who received Billboard's Rising Star Award last year, most recently appeared as herself on the ABC country music drama Nashville.

After premiering more scripted original shows last summer, including the limited series Astronaut Wives Club and the sci-fi drama The Whispers, ABC is returning to an unscripted-heavy schedule this coming summer. In addition to the returning quiz show 500 Questions, ABC will have a full night of game show revivals with Celebrity Family Feud, Match Game and $100,000 Pyramid.

The series order for Greatest Hits comes two years after ABC last tried its hand at a music series with the competition show Rising Star, based on an Israeli singing competition show. Featuring judges Kesha, Ludacris and Brad Paisley, as well as host Josh Groban, Rising Star's ratings couldn't compete with rivals like Fox's American Idol and NBC's The Voice and lasted just one season.

I'm not sure which episode Jewel will be on yet, but Twitter is ablaze with attendees praising her performance.  I'm sure we'll know more closer to the date!

Per one of the attendees, Jewel will perform a duet with Tori Kelly!

EDIT: I asked what song it was, and he wasn't sure.  NOT a standard Jewel hit then!!  :fun:

It WILL be a standard song after all - original source just wasn't a big jewel fan

Another twitterer pointed out that she did Foolish Games solo and You Were Meant For Me as a duet with Tori Kelly.

Also, twitterer said the "creepy warmup guy wouldn't wish her Happy Birthday."

Still p cool, though.  Hopefully it gets Jewel a little more attention from the masses. :)

From the show website:

Quote
"Greatest Hits" is a new music series featuring Hit-Makers of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Each episode will highlight a five-year period celebrating the biggest hits from that time, hosted by Arsenio Hall and Kelsea Ballerini. Each week, iconic music artists, as well as today's music chart-toppers, will take the stage and perform the songs that defined the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. The series also features special solo performances, never-before-seen duets and incredible tributes. "Greatest Hits" premieres THURSDAY, JUNE 30 at 9|8c on the ABC Television Network

Sooo...if these are broadcast chronologically, Jewel would be in the 4th episode (late '90s), July 21?

Well, I think this is the answer to my question, if this site's correct:

Quote
“Greatest Hits: 1995-2000” – The second half of the 1990s launched huge careers for the biggest names in pop, rap, hip-hop and rock music. This episode celebrates the greatest hits of the musical era from 1995-2000 with never-before-seen collaborations with Backstreet Boys & Meghan Trainor, Coolio & CeeLo Green, Jewel & Tori Kelly, LL COOL J & Wiz Khalifa and an unforgettable acoustic performance by Hanson. The episode also features John Legend’s captivating rendition of Lauryn Hill’s smash hits “Ex Factor” and “Doo Wop (That Thing).” Hosted by actor and comedian Arsenio Hall and country music star Kelsea Ballerini, “Greatest Hits” will air THURSDAY, JULY 7 (9:00–10:00 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network.

Musical performances from 1995-2000 include:

Backstreet Boys & Meghan Trainor – “I Want It That Way”
Coolio & CeeLo Green – “Gangsta’s Paradise”
John Legend – “Ex Factor/Doo Wop (That Thing)” (Lauryn Hill)
Jewel & Tori Kelly – “You Were Meant For Me”
LL COOL J & Wiz Khalifa – “Loungin’/We Dem Boyz”
Hanson – “Mmbop”
Backstreet Boys – “Everybody”

Don't know about Foolish Games, though.

Ah ha!  I'll get it fixed - thanks, Randy!  Broadway world is definitely reliable.

Maybe it was filmed but not used?  Stuff is frequently filmed for things like this that never gets past the cutting room floor.

It's tonight!

I caught a little of last week's show and the vibe I got was like one of those PBS shows where performers from the 50s and 60s come out, the crowd goes wild because they're instructed to, and the acts do...well, the best they can.

What I'm getting at is- it was kind of sad. I hope Jewel's segment doesn't feel that way. And I hope I got the vibe all wrong.

We (sort of) saw it, on a crappy, choppy stream site. There is a video here, though, labeled "interview" but it's actually Jewel and Tori sitting on a couch working out what parts of the song they'll each sing. I guess there will be more videos later...

I loved the harmonies, I thought it was so pretty. I wish the audience wouldnt have clapped though during the song.

The song did sound pretty lovely.  It's never been a favorite of mine, so meh, but I did notice one thing.  I don't think Jewel and Tori good pals.  Here's why - and maybe I'm just seeing things - but this is what I observed last night:

1. That was the most awkward hug I think I've ever seen when the two of them "meet" for the interview.  I got a better hug from Jewel, and I'm some creepy fan.

2. I've seen a LOT of Jewel duets and she always glances frequently at the other performer, yet she barely acknowledged Tori throughout their performance.

3. That Tori chick was definitely not playing the song correctly. I don't actually think that proves they aren't pals, but I just wanted to post that observation.

Maybe it's all inside my head, but the whole thing felt exceedingly contrived - like, even more than I expected it to be.

This wasn't on where I live.. so thanks for posting this you guys! I thought it was very pretty... a bit slow though.. I like a bit of a faster version of this song. I've been playing the heck outta this song on my guitar lately, so this is timely (I kinda suck, btw).

Totes agree Jess. That hug was very forced. Maybe they just aren't close. Heck, maybe they just met!

I've observed Jewel and many other people doing covers of this song, and many people play it a bit differently.. maybe this was just her version? I actually didn't get to see the whole video as it cuts out on me a little over half way through.

Thing is they've played together before!

Tori Kelly used to open for Jewel - that's why I thought their sudden lack of camaraderie was a bit surprising.

I agree the hug with a life uncommon and their total communication during that song is much better then with you were meant for me. I think "love used to be" describes their relationship the best
