JOY
« on: December 10, 2015, 08:44:30 PM »
So, who else has been listening to Joy?

I love that album *sooooo* much. It has actually become one of my favorite things about Christmas time. Listening to Joy, setting up the manger and some lights, old movies ( Miracle on 34th Street + It’s a Wonderful Life + etc), & some pine scented candles and I am in the Holiday mood.

Her versions of "Hark! Hear the Angels Sing" and "Joy To The World" are my two favorite Holiday songs. Oh man, and do I *love* the Christmas version of Hands!!!

One of the most bad**s guys I have ever known, who spent like 10 years doing elite counter terrorism stuff, posted on FB that Joy is his favorite holiday album. And, I was like ummmm wait.... WUT? He likes PoY too, apparently. :wtf2: But, he hasn't listened to any of her other albums. He's only a few years older than me. So she was huge when he was young. I was :o shocked :o to discover this musical taste of his. The only music I have ever listened to w/ him was Hatebreed and Pantera... while working out, but still.

Joy is definitely up there on my list of Christmas music faves.    Best songs, to me anyways:

O Holy Night
Hark the Herald
Christmas version of Hands
Wonder as I Wander
Face of Love

I believe we discussed in another thread that the Let it Snow album doesn't really compare to this one.

It's on the list for the weekend.  Haven't listened to any Christmas music this year, but that is always my first.  Plus, all the classic movies and Rankin/Bass specials.  No, White Christmas - with Bing and Rosemary, Code?

I had always hoped that Jewel would release a non-Christmas bell, non-Nedra, version of Face of Love.

Back in the day... :grandma: used to have "Go tell it on the Mountain" as my outgoing message on my answering machine.  Being a pagan, it used to confused the hell out of everyone.   :w

This is a beautiful song. I listened to it on my way to work today. It's sooo lovely, even if Nedra IS in it.  :)

SMP - so you still celebrate Christmas even though you aren't christian? Do you do different stuff? Just curious.

Yeah, I still celebrate Christmas.  And, I do listen to Christmas carols...not just Christmas songs.  I find, a lot of times that even though I don't consider myself a christian, I was raised Catholic.  And the Mrs is protestant.  So, there is a lot of blending.  Christmas carols (the holy ones) - they remind me of being a kid and can transport me back to that time and place.  When I hear Jewel sing songs like Ave Maria, I do, still, cry.   Music, all kinds, has that effect on me.  If it's a good arrangement and the person moves me...no problem.

Personally, I believe in the turning of the year.  So, I celebrate Yule.  Which is, pagan and exactly like Christmas.  I'm not Wiccan.  Just pagan.  Honestly, as long as my family and people I celebrate with are happy, I don't care what you celebrate or believe in.  I'm a firm believer in there is no right path for everyone, and if you respect my beliefs, I'll respect yours.  I have no problems with organized religions, per se - just some of the people that turn it into extermisim.  And that happens in any religion.  I just relate much better to a blending of nature, energy, quantum physics and metaphysics.

Same! I was raised Catholic too. My mum is uber Catholic and Ave Maria always reminds me of her. I have a lot of church memories and therefore, music memories from when I was growing up.

I don't care what you celebrate or believe in.  I'm a firm believer in there is no right path for everyone, and if you respect my beliefs, I'll respect yours.

I'm not a religious person, but I love religious music.
