OLD THREAD: http://jewel.freeforums.org/jewel-on-tv-radio-t287.html
Jewel was on local Telluride radio station, KOTO, this early afternoon. Nothing new was really said and I couldn't record it. I got in late. :/
They're going to play a song right about now! Everything breaks. LOG IN NOW if you want to hear it!
http://koto.org/
EDIT:
You can hear Jewel falling apart a little. :(
Slide guitars are not my favorite sound.
-
Jewel said she cried a little just now hearing it on the radio. :')
-
Mercy's gonna get played, too!
-
Can't believe this link works overs here in the UK and I tuned in late and missed it ;(
-
Argh! Wish we knew sooner! :wtf:
I wonder if KOTO ever rebroadcasts? They have a FB page, maybe they'll post it at some point? :blueguitar:
-
Darn! I hate I missed this!
-
I wish these things were announced sooner! I would've wanted to hear this. :)
-
Hell, this is the first TV/radio schedule I've seen, and it's buried in some random blog. There are a bunch (if this is accurate) to add to the calendar!
Jewel will celebrate the releases with a number of television appearances and book signings in the coming weeks. She’ll visit FOX News’ Fox & Friends on Sept. 14, ABC’s The View on Sept. 15, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live on Oct. 1 and Steve Harvey on Oct. 22. Additionally, Jewel will make appearances on The Howard Stern Show on Sept. 21 and NPR’s My Big Break, On Point with Tom Ashbrook, and Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me throughout September and October. Book signings begin Sept. 14 in New York and will include stops in Nashville, Boston, Denver, Phoenix and Los Angeles. She’s also appearing at this year’s AmericanaFest during the Americana Music Festival and Conference on Sept. 15 in Nashville.

Woah - great find, Randy! It all looks like stuff she'd do.
I  Wait Wait Don't Tell Me! I heard that Kim Kardasican person on there and she wasn't a completely revolting human being. NPR makes everyone look their best.
-
Woah - great find, Randy! It all looks like stuff she'd do.
Yesss! Howard Stern!!! :woohoo:
-
I hope someone shows up and records it for us! :fun:
-
Can these promo appearances be put up on the Calendar? They'd be good for reminders! :)
-
Yep - they can be placed on there!
-
So I added the stuff with an actual schedule attached, but NPR does business a little differently.
I'll just have to keep an eye out for these:
NPR:
My Big Break (Airs as part of All Things Considered/Morning Edition)
http://www.npr.org/series/274340198/my-big-break
On Point with Tom Ashbrook
http://onpoint.wbur.org/
Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me
http://www.npr.org/programs/wait-wait-dont-tell-me/
They will be archived and will be free to download from NPR's website when they finally air - they will stay available for a long time. NPR is amazing like that.
-
The View is sold out :banghead:
-
Woah - great find, Randy! It all looks like stuff she'd do.
Yesss! Howard Stern!!! :woohoo:
Yesssss!! I hope there's video with it and not just audio.
-
It'd have been fun to be in the view's studio audience. I don't think Howard has an audience.
Howard will be a better watch/listen, but The View is something all the EDAs flocking to NY can try to do together.
-
No, Howard is a closed interview but if I had a pick, in a perfect world...
The View, bunch of hens clucking in a hen house. I don't care who they have at that table. The guests are almost pointless...they always cluck over them.
-
That's what I typically think, too, but Sandy's shown me some amazing View videos.
I mean, this is classic:

Aside from the geezer emoji, I need the one with tape over it's mouth.

:shrug2:
Why is everyone so excited about The Spew...I mean, The View? I'd rather see the Howard interview. Honestly, back in NY days - he was one of the only jocks being semi-decent. Matt Pinfield was (surprisingly) and AJ Hammer. I hope she gets paid some good cash for being on The View.
And by everyone...that's just me.
The Chew is the Spew. Not the View. Anyway, haters gonna hate. I've watched for years and I'm not gonna sit here getting all defensive about someone else's opinion. I have wanted to be in the audience for years, so I'm simply saying I'm bummed that it's sold out the day that Jewel is there. And since I'll already be in NY...
And for the record, it's the only local show next week with an audience. I'm equally excited about all of her upcoming tv and radio gigs.
I am SOOOOO happy she's not degrading herself on Live with Hobag and Michael! I cringe every time I have to set my dvr for that disease ridden whore.
-
Yeah, Fuck kelly ripa. I won't even capitalize her name.
Boo, Kelly Ripa.
I have the husband saying that randomly. You'd be proud.
-
SO PROUD!!!!

No, Howard is a closed interview but if I had a pick, in a perfect world...
Howard's interviews with Jewel have always been great. Looking forward to another one!
The View, bunch of hens clucking in a hen house.
Agreed. These women are annoying, annoying, annoying. :jackoff:

No, it's not just you. I saw a few people were trying to go and that the show was sold out. I don't watch a lot of TV - like, at all. Especially, daytime TV. I wasn't going after you, and I honestly wouldn't slam someone based on something they like. As Jewel fans, I think we've all been on the receiving end of that. I don't understand the View or shows like it (Loose Women) and there is another one...because my brain, can't process the format of the show. This is why I choose not to watch TV. I, don't get it. Me.
-
There's one called, like, the Chat or the ... um.... the Talk, maybe.
It has half of Sister Sister in it. That's the peak of insipid daytime TV.
-
From Alan:
"....just stumbled across it while surfing the Comcast channel guide, but thought some of you may appreciate knowing that the VH1-CL channel is rebroadcasting Jewel's December 14, 1998 Saturday Night Live (her 2nd) appearance at 2:00PM EST today."
-
Jewel will be on the Big D and Bubba show on Monday: http://www.bigdandbubba.com/
-
So I came home yesterday to a flooded basement (yay me) and my friend (The Plumber) came by to install a new sump pump for me. Trust me...not totally :offtopic:
Plumber: I watched an interview with Jewel and Howard Stern the other day. So good! It was more like a conversation than an interview.
Of course I ran down the list of all of the upcoming interviews...he really doesn't give a shit.
That is all...just thought I'd share.
-
Sorry to hear about your troubles with plumbing Sandy! Hope everything is okay
-

It's all good $400 later. I'm lucky that my friend is a plumber. And easy on the eyes. ;)
-
That makes me think of the commercials for (Angie's list, maybe?) with the sexy plumber and the innuendo of checking pipes.
-
You mean the Liquid Plumbr commercial that hints strongly at some DP action?

Did any of you read the above article and then read the comments below it? Some Jewel disbelievers, that's for sure. Not saying they are right, (certainly not about her family being rich) but it makes for an interesting read, especially Paz Thibodeaux who claims to have gone to school with Jewel.

It's certainly interesting. I'm not sure what to think.
What I do know is: People love to hear an American dream come true, that doesn;t mean it isn't true.
-
Managed to catch the Fox & Friends appearance just now. Jewel was only on for about 5-6 minutes, and they ran through the harrassment at aged 8, the motivations for the new album, and her family's show up in Alaska. They gave a quick plug for the CD and book, but it was pretty brief, all things considered.
-
Thanks for the rundown, Simon!!

6 Inspiring Rags to Riches Stories (That Are Bullshit) (http://www.cracked.com/article_16989_6-inspiring-rags-to-riches-stories-that-are-bullshit.html)
#4. Jewel
The Rags to Riches Story:
Jewel lived in a van!
Jewel lived in a van!!
Jewel lived in a van!!!!!!
This line is shouted in every single story ever written about Jewel. And just in case that doesn't melt your frozen heart, the van story is almost always followed up with the fact that her family was so poor growing up that they didn't have running water.
Why it's a Load of Crap:
First, the stuff about her childhood. Her family didn't go without running water because they were poor. Jewel's father elected to drop out of society to live of the land, and settled in Alaska to do so. They were hippies, not hobos. Jewel's upbringing was unconventional, sure, but at least she didn't grow up in homeless shelters like true badasses such as KRS One, Tupac Shakur and ... Shania Twain.
Later, Jewel followed in her father's footsteps, choosing to quit work and live in a van to keep costs down and focus on her music. Ballsy? Sure, but all musicians live in their car for a while. Legally, you're not allowed to call yourself a musician unless you've got some sort of transient-living under your belt.
Again, we're not just talking about hard asses like Kurt Cobain, whose biography includes a spell camping out under a bridge. Creed lead "singer" Scott Stapp and Matchbox 20 front"man" Rob Thomas lived in their cars while pursuing the dream.
Don't take our word for it, take it from those celebrated rock and roll historians, Boston:
Well, we were just another band out of Boston
On the road to try to make ends meet
Playing all the bars, sleeping in our cars
And we practiced right on out in the street
Sleeping in a car is rock and roll! And she had a van; hell, that's a freaking mansion in the struggling musician world.
So common is the van in rock and roll, that there is a website dedicated to giving the van dwellers of rock an occasional couch to sleep on (at BetterThanTheVan.com).
So why don't we hear about Scott Stapp, Rob Thomas and Shania Twain's hard ass upbringings as much as Jewel's? Well, it would seem that Jewel's tale of unprecedented hardship might be part of a calculated PR strategy. For instance, if you're tired of the van story, her online bios will have you know that she also "washed her hair in public restrooms, subsisted on carrots and peanut butter, fell in with street gangs, dated older men and even shoplifted." Come on guys. This isn't high school, it's rock and roll. If you're going to be the bad girl, you're going to have to give us something a little worse than "dating older men," and a little less hilariously far-fetched than "gang involvement." Stevie Nix's PR team should have some suggestions.
-
:grumpy:
HEY!!!!
:wtf2: Did Stevie Nicks do to this guy? :ragecomp: Leave The Stevie alone.
Side note: I kind of agree that most of her life, was an option. And her family has to have some dough from ATLF. It doesn't take anything away from the music, artistry, difficulty or pain.
-
Thanks, now Shake It Off is in my head

I tuned in to AOL Build just in time! But it seems they're a little late. Figures.

It's finally on!

No guitar. :'(

There is no chorus in Love Used to Be? ummm.... p sure there is?
Is she confusing chorus with hook or something?
-
P sure the guy who's there pitching his songwriting did the same thing to Mary J Blige before this.
-
P sure the guy who's there pitching his songwriting did the same thing to Mary J Blige before this.
I wouldn't doubt it. Those people were probably meant to stay in the audience most of the time. But at least those questions were better than the typical ones you hear all the time, so there's that. :)

Didn't Jewel once say that she took a bunch of advice from Poltz specifically to get discovered? Wasn't that the point of the weekly show at the Innerchange? Lately she's saying she never wanted to be discovered - it was just a happy accident.
See, I think this is another story shift...

See, I think this is another story shift...
She's said she did the shows to get money, not to really become big enough to get signed on a label. Poltz suggested that she sing regularly at a specific place at a specific time to build a follow, so she found the Innerchange which was closing anyway, so she made the deal with the owner that if she brought people in she'd get to keep the door money and the owner would keep the rest. Obviously it worked out. ;)

Wow. This has been a big day. I just caught up on all the new posts, but haven't watched any clips yet! That's next.

I could see her meeting someone who doesn't know who she is, but like if they reconnected via twitter, it'd be like.... "hmmm, this girl has 400k followers.... what's the story?" Haha!
Also, does anyone know what time she's on Howard Stern next Mon? And if it's streamable? I assume I'll be at work, but would be good to know if i can tune in while in the car or on lunch or something.
-
HuffPo was one of the best interviews since Howard.
This type of press run, is typical. IT's just the outlets that change. My guess is this why she does such a small amount of touring. Do it and get it done. Very draining. Good for her. Glad things are seemingly well.
-
Someone gave Jenny McCarthy a radio show? God, save us!
I listened to about 2 minutes of this. Annoying host.. blech.
-
Heh. The View opened up with WWSYS bumper music.
-
The mister is excited that he has a meeting at 9 AM and won't be able to see this.
-
Is The View live? If so, they need to get on with it. Their guest has to be on a plane to Nashville here soon.
-
Jewel had posted she was done with it around 8 or 9 AM EST, so it's definitely not live.
-
Well, that was quick.
MFD, sitting on that couch?
Even if it was a truncated version, without the bridge.

EVERYONE IN THE DAMN VIEW AUDIENCE WALKED AWAY WITH A BOOK AND NONE OF US HAVE IT
Maybe they all got a voucher or something and have to wait like everyone else.

I woud imagine that it'll show up on youtube. Cameras in the booth are standard, but I guess it depends on who has access.

By the time I get this stupid ass fuckin' file uploaded the Youtube video will be up as well as a transcription or three. The upload rate was around 500kb/s which is slower than snail shit but not slow enough evidently, so just to fuck with me, it throttled down to 90kb/s and then failed outright, twice.
And 1.39 GB sure seems big for a one hour .wav file. Did I screw it up? Hell, I don't know.
:blackcloud:
EDIT: Welp. I see one thing wrong. Instead of exporting just my selection (1:05), it's 2:21 of Stern there. Shit.

You can do it! I'm cheering for you!
You might get a smaller file if you run it through VLC and convert to MP3.

That calendar, BTW, is a great feature at this board. It's such an easy reminder of what's coming up, especially at times like these when there's a lot of stuff going on.

Yeah, I really like it, too. :)
I need to re-link some of these older appearances with their respective threads in the Interviews section so they get off the top header of this thread. Hopefully this weekend I'll find the motivation.

I think that's exactly what the doctor ordered on this particular media tour, some humor to help wash down all the downer stuff. We all know she can be wickedly funny.

The "Banter" Jewel gets into her live appearances, the interaction with the crowd, I love almost as much as her music.
At the Birmingham Book Signing during "Questions segment" I ask about a possible EDA event like the TexFest or Swanky Soiree in next year or so? She replied it's on a backburner for now.
I commented I'd missed the Swanky Soiree, she fired back, "I guess you just missed out on that one, to bad, you would have looked good there." :jewelsmilie:

Jewel was on Wait Wait and it turns out her aunt was Tom Bodett's accountant, which I didn't remember reading in the book.
EDIT:
This is p funny after you hear the show:
-
I didn't catch the CMT thing this weekend. The mister even suggested we watch it and I was like, "nah." Here's to hoping it pops up online.
I didn't see the WGN thing this morning, either. I'm a bum.

WGN is tomorrow morning, isn't it? So is Nash FM, I see. One of these might not be live in studio...
-
Ah, duh, of course it is tomorrow. Silly me. :P
The NashFM will probably be a call-in... ah...uh...oh wait. I'm not sure how she could pull off performing over the phone. I have no idea, but she's definitely in Chicago for the day.
I wonder if I have the wherewithal to get up early for it.
I'm kind of surprised there weren't more media appearances over the LA tour time.

Plus, I really thought this would be the week when Loudspeaker on 91x would play the songs she recorded there way back when, what with Halloran getting together with her and all. But no.
You remember the conversation we had about it back in Feb/March? I've made it a point to stay up late every Sunday since, to record that damn show and...nothing. I'm insane, BTW.
-
You're not insane, you're a hero!! :hail:
It got brought up again somewhere else on the web not too long ago, too, but nothing came of it OF COURSE.

Randy, here's more info: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=912659348783808&set=a.358709244178824.78421.100001192535299&type=3&theater

HOLY SHIT YES
Alan has it, and Niles is putting something together so maybe it'll get heard.
Is that May 3, 1993 on that tape? Wow.
Thanks Jess!
-
Man, if you catch and record this show, you will be elevated to God status. I'll make a new member group for you and everything. You will be a hero. Hero or God or whatever you want to be - it's up to you.
Maybe I'll just make it so you can embed stuff  :AdminPower:

I got up way too early, considering it's a day off work.
These two appearances are looking more and more like they'll be at the same damn time; they're both saying she'll be on in the 8:00 EDT/7:00 CDT slot. WGN's playing the Foo Fighters video as a bumper now.

...and Nash FM is playing a Luke Bryan song. :barf:
-
She's on the WGN show; they just interviewed her about the book, and she's going to sing next.
-
Heh. By the time I turned down WGN and turned up Nash FM, she was already there. "LIVE IN STUDIO!"
Somebody's lyin'... :jackoff:
-
She sang Mercy on WGN:

Check this link some time tomorrow. There should be a video, although I don't know if it'll be available outside the US. There was a lot of mom talk, some dad talk, a little bit of marriage, realizing what she was looking for and wanted in life etc. but not much more is said than we already know. :) Oh, and she sang My Father's Daughter.

She's singing Here When Gone on Kimmel!

Great performance of HERE WHEN GONE, and her legs just make me crazy!

So much is going on and I've missed most of it. What's the easiest way to go through all of her appearances so I can watch the videos?

Not really worth its own thread: http://todays1019.cbslocal.com/2015/10/08/jewel-calls-todays-101-9-to-talk-to-greg-gina/
Jewel Calls Today’s 101.9 To Talk To Greg & Gina
This morning on The Pulse Greg and Gina had singer-songwriter Jewel on the show!
Jewel talked with us about her new book, Never Broken: The Memoir, and album, Picking Up The Pieces.
But, we wanted to find out more fun stuff like are the Foo Fighters as cool as we think they are and, how’d she keep her relationship with Sean Penn a secret for so long.
She told us about what it feels like going back to work and starting up her promo tour while hanging out on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live! and the Tavis Smiley show.
She’s really makes you feel like you’ve been friends forever.
You can hear it in the above link.
There was a cute skit with Kimmel we didn't get to see.

There was a repeat of Jewel's performance of Mercy on Tavis Smiley tonight. Well, this morning. She sounded great. :) And for those who missed Meredith Vieira the episode should repeat tomorrow night around 2:00 am. If you can stay up that late. :tongue2:
-
Don't forget - Jewel's on the Steve Harvey Show tomorrow!
http://www.steveharveytv.com/jewel-chats-about-the-lessons-shes-learned-from-challenging-life-events/
Steve welcomes platinum-selling artist, producer and best-selling author JEWEL, to talk about her new album “Picking Up The Pieces” and her recently published memoir, “Never Broken.” Jewel opens up to Steve about her troubled relationship with her mom, homelessness, sexual harassment, parenthood, her secret relationship 20 years ago with Sean Penn, her recent divorce, and the lessons she has learned from these life experiences.
-
-
The Steve Harvey show is probably one of the worst things I've ever seen on television. Awful, terrible, etc.
25 minutes in and no Jewel yet, either.
-
The horror you have to go through just because you are a fan of someone.
You should let Jewel know about the things you sacrifice for her
-
 Right!?
Well, it was a little 3 - 4 minute interview - nothing new in it or compelling. Hopefully it introduces a couple new people to Jewel, but otherwise - meh.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP-uu2UyA7A
-
That was cute what she said about Kase!
Mrs. Roper in the house, once again.... *ahem*
-
Jewel had a brief little interview on an Australian radio show, Jonesy and Amanda's JAMcast on WS FM101.7. Her bit starts at about 28:40:
Very cute. :flower:
-
Given the Twitter exchanges between Jewel and her make-up artist, Charlie Green, I think it's safe to assume Jewel's going to be at the CMA awards.
Red Carpet show will be here: http://www.att.com/cmaredcarpet/
She's not listed as a performer or presenter, so there will be a picture thread with some red carpet photos up sometime this week, but nothing worth actually watching it for unless you're into country music awards shows.

I hate awards shows.
-
I hate country music. :tumbleweed:
-
In that steve harvey interview that woman at 4:40. I swear in her mind she is saying......
"OH MY GOD I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS CHICK BUT I'M GETTING SOMETHING FREE THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER! "
-
CMA awards, just got a quick glimpse of Jewel very pretty white dress with lots of sparkles.

This set up, reminds me of the pitch fests where you go from table to table and pitch your idea. Looks like a big auditorium where you go to variouss radio stations and pitch your new project for ____ amount of time. Then all the different radio stations have sound bites that they own - would be my guess.
-
Deliiiilaaaah!
All these years of hearing her on the radio off and on all the time, I never thought to think about what she looks like. I always pictured her as a brunette for some reason.
-
I hope she posts her NPR interview last night, because... grrrrr... broken Dish, broken TiVo off-air.
-
Whatever you heard on NPR, it's probably a replay.
Someone else said they just heard the Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me bit this weekend. Is that the one you heard? That one's just a little bit, though. The big NPR interview this year was this one: http://forum.edas.space/index.php?topic=148.0

There was another Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me "best of" show (http://www.npr.org/podcasts/344098539/wait-wait-don-t-tell-me) yesterday, including part of Jewel's September appearance (32:37-40:19 in the link below)...nothing new but hey, she was on the radio again...

However...in listening to that November "best of" show, I noticed that Tom Bodett said some stuff that wasn't even included in the original show, specifically how impressed he and everyone else was with the talents of 15 year old Jewel (5:15-6:10 below). I didn't listen to it in November, assuming I'd already heard everything. And I was wrong!

Season two of HOLLYWOOD MEDIUM WITH TYLER HENRY premieres Wednesday, August 17 at 8pm ET/PT on E!
In the all-new season, the 20-year-old medium, clairvoyant and medical intuitive sits down with a vast variety of both believers and skeptics, to convey messages from beyond. Celebrities meeting with Tyler in season two include Kris Jenner, Tori Spelling, Melissa Joan Hart, Carole Radziwill, Moby, Kevin McHale, Jewel, Roselyn Sanchez, Austin Mahone, Retta, EJ Johnson, Rachel Hunter, Lil John, Whitney Port, Jennifer Esposito, Joely Fisher, Audrina Patridge, Kendra Wilkinson, Cory Feldman, Linda Blair, Mae Whitman, WWE Superstars' Nikki and Brie Bella, Madison Beer, Evelyn Lozada and Shaniece Hairston. In addition, Tyler will sit back down with Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, who had a tear-jerking reading in the show's first season, for an emotional follow up session.
I have no idea which episode she'll be in or what it's about. I don't even know that I'd watch this drivel.

Jewel On Mercedes In The Morning
Not every artist can turn Mercedes into a complete stalker, but Jewel is not like every other artist. That is why when she played one of our events back in the day, Mercedes stole one of her hair pins. But instead of being upset about it she actually hopes that Mercedes is still using it, “Tell me you’re wearing it now?”
Jewel joined us today to let us know all about her upcoming appearance as a featured speaker at Zappos For Good at The Smith Center. However, it wasn’t all business with her because the one thing we needed to know about was why she was using a frozen lobster as an ice pack in one of her Instagram photos, “I had just had a root canal and my friends were having a dinner party, and I was in a lot of pain. They didn’t have any ice packs, but they did have lobster.”
If you are a fan of the show then you know that JC is a HUGE wrestling fan, but he was completely surprised to hear that Jewel had actually been a guest on WWE Raw, “Google it, I smacked a gal, it was awesome!”

Jewel was mentioned on Jim Rome's radio show - he said she and Whitehurst are Hollywood's new power couple now that Brad and Angelina split.
Also, he said every time he mentions Jewel on his show, his inbox gets filled up by people who want to talk about her.

I have no idea who Jim Rowe is, but that inbox comment is awesome.

On the CBS NFL Today show, they mentioned that the Browns had signed "Jewel's boyfriend" to back up their rookie QB. Included a couple of pics, too. I'm sure ol' Charlie is thrilled that this is his identity now.

So, Jewel is mentioned is Lady Gaga's new album review by Rolling Stone:
Rolling Stone review:
Joanne
Review: Lady Gaga's Soft-Rock Turn 'Joanne' Is Her Best in Years
Rob Sheffield on fifth album from art-pop chameleon
Joanne is Lady Gaga's best album in five years, since the disco-stick hair-metal manifesto that was Born This Way. In her quest to master all pop spectacle – hit singles, scandalous TV stunts, The Sound of Music medleys at award shows – Gaga's been too restless to slow down for albums. Or maybe after she hit it so far out of the park with Born This Way, she figured album-making was a party trick she'd already done. Her Tony Bennett duet was a clever rebranding Hail Mary after her overheated yet practically song-free fiasco Artpop. But Born This Way was the one moment she hit the longform glory of album auteurs like Kanye, Beyoncé or Taylor.
With Joanne, Gaga starts over with music that feels stripped-down, restrained, modest and other adjectives that you wouldn't usually associate with her. It's an old-school Nineties soft-rock album, heavy on the acoustic guitar: Meet Lilith Gaga, who goes for both the incense-and-patchouli hippie vibe of Sarah McLachlan and the cowgirl glitter of Shania Twain. And for anyone out there who might carry a torch for Paula Cole, there's "John Wayne," where Gaga wonders where all the cowboys have gone.
Earth Mama Monster mutes any trace of disco or glam – the giveaway is her ostentatiously squeaky fingers on the guitar strings in "Joanne," a touching ballad mourning her deceased aunt. It works best when Gaga gets some grit into the songwriting, especially the hands-down highlight "Sinner's Prayer," a faux-country family melodrama where she wails, "I don't wanna break the heart of any other man but you" – it's her kissing cousin to Beyonce's "Daddy Lessons." She co-wrote it with Father John Misty – bet he's the one who added those Wowie Zowie guitar hooks. Another oddball peak is her Florence Welch duet "Hey Girl," a tribute to Prince in lovesick midtempo mode – it could be a lost B-side from between between Around The World in a Day and Parade.
Gaga gets understated production from Mark Ronson and guests like Tame Impala's Kevin Parker or Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, who adds guitar to "John Wayne" and "Diamond Heart." There's no move to the dance floor – the nearest she comes is "A-Yo," a taste of Motown handclaps and dirty talk, or "Dancin' in Circles," a reggae ode to she-bopping. Strangely, it's a duet with Beck, whose presence can't be heard – it sounds more like a No Doubt cover band who'd call themselves Spiderwebs or Hella Good. She also avoids cracking any jokes, which is a loss, since Joanne really falls flat when she gets solemn. "Angel Down" reminds you what a fine job Jewel used to do, opening with the self-parodic announcement "I confess I am lost in the age of the social," before musing, "We all belong in the arms of the sacred." With "Perfect Illusion" already fizzling as a single, the time is right for Gaga to reclaim some luster as an album artist – for all its hits and misses, Joanne is a welcome reminder of why the world needs her around.

Okay.
There's some kind of media blitz going on during Jewel's stay in NYC the last day or so; interviews all over the place (per her tweets) and I can't seem to find, let alone listen to, a damn one of them.
WTF?
Is it me? :grandpa:

Not quite Jewel on TV/radio per se....but I was watching The Real O'Neals this week and there was a Jewel reference.
Kenny (the main character)'s bff is having family issues after they find out she's lesbian so she's staying in Kenny's family's van. They tell her she can't stay in the van because no one ever gets anywhere in life that way (or something similar). The girl responds that Jewel lived in her van and the mom quickly quips "yeah, and when's the last time you heard anything from her..." The girl is about to protest, but the mom cuts her off saying "...that's not a Christmas album?"

Finally watched the Dan Rather interview. (AT&T/DirectTV users have it available on demand). I thought it was a great interview, and I especially liked the videos and pictures that were incorporated. I feel that we've heard some of it before, but it didn't sound as rehearsed as it did during the Never Broken press tour. At the end I thought awww, that's the Jewel that I fell in love with!

Here's the video on youtube, too:

This might be pretty cool. I watched the first season of Undercover Boss and it was pretty good! These big business owners would go pretend to be scrubs in their own companies and learn that their profit-making decisions were hard on the underlings and they'd make actual changes to the ways they did business that would hurt the bottom line, but please the staff. Good stuff. But the second season and on turned into some human interest story stuff where three people were chosen to give sob stories and their benevolent gods ... er .... bosses ... would hand them each a check and some vacation package. It wasn't as good. I guess there aren't very many business owners willing to make actual changes to their companies to improve worker experience. :/

Jewel was on 20/20 in an episode called Jonathan Koch's Remarkable Surgery and Recovery about a popular reality TV producer who was fell deathly ill for seemingly no reason.
Jonathan Koch was the poster child of "clean living" - never smoking or drinking alcohol and coffee, and exercising regularly. As the co-founder of the production company Asylum Entertainment, he was traveling to a conference when he started to feel sick. Overnight, Koch went from fitness fanatic to intensive care hospital patient when his organs began to suddenly fail.
Doctors were baffled about what was killing him and why the treatment they were giving him was ineffective. They put Koch in what was essentially a medically induced coma, but soon gangrene set in and his limbs began to die. Two days later, doctors determined that he had an uncommon and aggressive autoimmune disease called hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Once on chemotherapy and steroids he began to recover, but there was irreversible damage to his extremities causing him unspeakable pain. Eventually his left hand and the fingers on his right hand, his right leg and the toes on his left foot were amputated. Unable to use his hands and legs, Koch relied heavily on his then-fiancée, now wife, Jennifer Gunkel.
It's actually pretty good and Jewel is prominently featured with loads of references to Hands for obvious reasons.
This episode aired back in August of 2017, but I'd never heard of it.

Jewel was on TV a few days ago! She played Foolish Games on a show called En Direct de L Univers. This show is from Quebec. Here's the actual website for it: https://ici.radio-canada.ca/tele/en-direct-de-l-univers/site/segments/prestation/90584/jewel-foolish-games-live-sophiegregoire-trudeau-chanson?fbclid=IwAR12IZWfEYe5KJ6y9QxDko9rq-6t3ETVE2iQYbWXIZ1lff9RwA_bmbc0rBo ... I think only Canadians can access the official video.
Performance is at about the 29:00 minute mark in the below.

I have no idea what all this is about, but I saw a tweet that said Jewel stayed at Trudeau's house? Maybe this is some cultural in-joke I don't get or a bad translation. I speak zero French. I do know Trudeau's ol' lady also played a flute on the show and Google Translate sucks p often.

Turns out that the introduction I couldn't understand says that Jewel stayed at the Sophie Grégoire's house the night before. Also, Sophie is wearing one of Jewel's new rings!
Jewel's got some friends in high places, yo.

Last November, on an episode of "Mom" on CBS, one of the characters (Christy) says something like "When I got sober all I did was sleep, cry, and listen to Jewel". Georgianna heard it first and I've been trying to find the clip ever since. Anyway, it's on Hulu now, about 4:30 into the episode:

Well, I guess these things come in bunches now...
Jewel was a Jeopardy! question tonight!! Category: "Whose Mega-Album?". Answer: She's sold 12 million pieces of her 1995 "Pieces of You".
No one got it....

I just watched Jewel's Undercover boss episode...
It's funny watching her try to sing good/bad.
Anyway, I looked up the podcast she appears on in the episode to hear her sing Help Me Make It Through the Night as Andrea DeLuca from NJ. You can hear her sing around 29 minutes in on the episode here: https://www.podparadise.com/Podcast/1134101582/Listen/1528970417/0
