Title: Swanky Soiree Leftovers
Post by: jewelwiki on September 15, 2015, 06:08:07 AM
I was just thinking about how many awesome songs were performed at the Swanky Soiree...12 of them made it to Picking Up the Pieces
http://www.jewelwiki.com/pmwiki.php?n=Performances.2014-03-21NashvilleTennesseeUSA
Quote
Everything Breaks
A Boy Needs a Bike
Without You By My Side
Mercy (formerly "Broken Until Open")
You Lied
Here When Gone
Nicotine Love
Passing Time
Tiny Love Spaces
His Pleasure Is My Pain
Family Tree
My Father's Daughter
Plain Jane
The Shape of You
Hotel Angel
Carnivore
Think I'm Falling
If This Is What Love Is
Love Used to Be
Encore:
I'm Sensitive

Now if we take out the songs from Picking Up the Pieces (and the encore):

Without You By My Side
You Lied
Passing Time
Tiny Love Spaces
Hotel Angel
Think I'm Falling
If This Is What Love Is

That's still an impressive list of songs...more than enough for an EP? Strong enough songs to be the backbone for a follow up album for sure! Maybe the success of PUtP will determine if she releases more? I can dream, right?

Has anyone asked how many of the Soiree recordings are actually on the album? I guess we could ask Alan...more likely to get an answer that way, maybe. I can make an educated guess, based in instrumentation & whatnot, but...

I'm kind of disappointed that there's no audience mix included for ambience so we could actually tell which were the live tracks, the way POY was, but I understand not doing it that way too.

It was only Carnivore.  I went through the  possible others along side my virtually unlistenable cell phone copy from that night and many of them are in a different key entirely or, in the case of Family Tree, have a slightly different guitar line.

Think I'm Falling, Tiny Love Spaces, You Lied... gah. I wanted them all on the album! I wonder if they ever actually plan to officially release the show, whether on DVD or CD. I hope they do. People keep asking for it so they know we want it.

I just finally listened to that a couple of weekends ago on my drive home from Memphis. I think I enjoyed hearing YOU as much as I did hearing her.  :P

My blathering is always Jewel's greatest musical accompaniment.  I'd say the mister could verify this, but I don't think he knows any other way.

When I hear it, I hear those damn squeaking chairs more than anything.

Looks fine to me, let's all tweet her about this in a few weeks when most of her promotional work is done.

That can be our new mission - get Jewel to participate in Record Store Day! :fun:

I could reasonably wait for April. :flower:

We have to ask General Randy if this is a reasonable mission.

Yeah, I heard a lot of that too. With all the recordings I process, though, I've heard a lot worse!

I want all of the leftover Swanky Soiree recordings and all of the other songs that Jewel was recording. I heard she was doing something with So Close To Heaven which I want!

I was really hoping that the enhanced edition of Never Broken would include songs that didn't make the album, like when she's talking about her mother and reveals what actually happened she'd include You Lied etc.

I really hope they see the light of day because I NEED a clearer version than the Baltimore version which is clearly the best but I want a recorded version.

I also want A Place In The Sun to see the light of day on record. I think it would have fit in nicely on this album.

Clearly everyone thinks she needs to make PUTP 2.0.  Are we bored with this album already?

I actually thought this should have/could have, been a killer double album and DVD release.  Clearly, I was not consulted on  the matter. :w

I agree - this session was ripe for a double album release, but I always want a double album release.

I bought it some months ago and I've only listened to the acoustic half. Pretty sure I'm on the correct side of things here.

Tis true the acoustic one is the only one I listen to.
I meant a real double album with a slew of material.  Ya know, like they did in the old days  :grandma: because they had tons of material written and there was an outlet for it.

Seriously, book, audio book, double album, DVD - plus special releases.  Oh, how happy I would have been.  I have to find my copy of Without You by My Side...I have no idea where it ran off to.

I listened to both discs once then put the acoustic (Sweet & Mild) into my auto CD stack and listen to it only.  :hi5:

"double album, DVD - plus special releases." sounds great to me. If we talk it up enough maybe we will get Jewels attention.  :woot:

What's wring with Sweet & Wild. Some of the studio versions were better than the acoustic versions. Although I love the way she sings Stay Here Forever on the Mild CD.

I REALLY wish Jewel went with a double CD too. But it's probably so she could use the left over tracks for future album releases.

Does any Angelfood exist of the Swanky Soiree??

I have no idea what's wring with it, but what's wrong with it is that the music is pop-country shit  :barf:

I actually like some Wild songs more than some Mild songs and vice versa. To me it just depends on the song. Like, I can barely listen to the "Wild" I Love You Forever, but I think the "Mild" version is actually quite good. It's been a while since I've heard either CD so I can't really think of other examples, but yeah, I remember thinking that when I first heard them.

Or I just appreciate them for what they are. They both have some nice melodies and her voice never gets old. The lyrics are second rate but it's not "bad" music in my opinion.

I used to be in the "it's not the same *insert artists name* that caught my attention" crowd but then I just got over it. 0304, Perfectly Clear, Sweet & Wild, The Merry Goes Round, they all have cons but they also have pretty strong pros and I enjoy the songs I want to listen to and skip the ones I don't want to.

Being an EDA isn't a competition, no ones a bigger or better fan than someone else because they prefer the early albums to the later ones.

Well, that's where our opinions differ. And that's okay. There's plenty of room in the music world for everyone.

Being an EDA isn't a competition...

I don't recall anyone saying it was.

It's all about attitude. The fans that don't like those albums have a rotten one towards those that do. I'm just calling it out.

I don't dislike Sweet and Wild either. I like the studio versions of No Good In Goodbye, Summer Home and Ten, but I definitely prefer the Mild version overall.

Awe Sweet and Wild has some of my faves! My favorite is What You Are. But I am a fan of pop, country, and folk so I have no issues with any album by her.
