GM: I wanted to thank you so much for sharing and you’re just a wonderful mom and a wonderful example of being able to do it all, and I hope you have a great holiday and a great year continuing into 2017!

Jewel: Oh, and I want to talk a little now about my dad and my brothers; tomorrow we’ll be doing a Christmas Day special on TBS [sic]. It’s going to be filmed here in Nashville and we are going to share songs and music. So let your people know about it because there won’t be a lot of time to advertise–just getting the word out myself.

It'll be broadcast on Christmas day on CBS (not TBS - they either misunderstood her or that's a typo) and the entire show will be Jewel and family. Lots going on behind the scenes to get this together and it's looking to be quite the show.

The Kilcher Family Holiday Special

I know that you’re excited about something that you and your family are working on; what can you tell us?
My whole family will be on a Christmas show with me on CBS during the daytime on Christmas Day. We’ll be singing songs and kind of exchanging handmade gifts and things like that. So, I’m happy to have people look out for that.

What’s the title of that special?
I don’t know yet. We just got the time slot and so we’re just planning it right now. I don’t know. It will probably be something like Jewel’s Family or Family Heirloom Christmas. I have no idea. [laughs]

Is Kase following in your family’s musical traditions?
He hasn’t really shown a huge interest so far. He sings and has been learning to yodel and he sings with me here and there, but he honestly has never really been to many of my shows, because I sing at night and I always put him to bed. We’ll see as he gets a little bit older.

And the music that you’re singing, is that stuff that you and your dad have written or are they traditional Christmas songs?
They’ll be traditional songs and then my dad will write a song especially for this. We’ll exchange a bunch of homemade gifts.

That’s one of the things that’s always been amazing about your family on Alaska: The Last Frontier, the care that people put into the gifts that they give to each other. Does that put pressure on you that you can’t go out and buy gifts for each other?
We never really had the money and frankly we never really valued it. It was much more touching to get something somebody made whatever it was. I remember just painting rocks as a kid. You know for my dad. Things like that or writing a poem. I loved that.

To this day is that something you prefer, to get something that’s handmade and heartfelt?
Absolutely. Yeah.

Cool! Although I hope it's rebroadcast as I don't plan to watch much TV on Christmas Day...

Well, what else are we gonna do on Christmas Day besides watch the tube? 

We checked the local listings, and they have her show on CBS at 1pm; it's one hour long. Funny thing is, I'd have thought there would be lots of Christmas programming that day, but hers is the only one on CBS or Fox (the two networks we get) for the entire day!

Viewers will definitely be in for a treat when Jewel and other members of the Alaska: The Last Frontier Kilcher clan sing together on stage in Nashville. At this time, CBS has not issued a press release about the special, but Holiday Homecoming with Jewel is scheduled to air on Sunday, December 25 at 1 p.m. ET....

I'm wondering if this tidbit is news to anyone else:

Jewel and her Alaskan Kilcher family will be center of a Christmas day (Dec. 25) holiday special airing at 1 p.m. CT on CBS-TV.

Holiday Homecoming With Jewel was recorded at Nashville’s Fontanel Mansion and is one of the first projects the singer has undertaken since finding new management with Marc Oswald.

The special will feature music from Jewel as well as American Idol finalist Geneva Rose Mitchell with stories, and holiday traditions.

“Growing up as a child in Homer Alaska a friend and I had a dream that we would be successful singer songwriters and go to Nashville someday,” read a Facebook post by Atz Kilcher, Jewel’s father. “Well about half a century later Bonnie and I had the pleasure of spending some time with my old friend Tim Mitchell. We are both here in Nashville now because of the great success of our daughters. I’m filming a Christmas special show with my daughter and family. Tim is here to watch his daughter, American Idol finalist Geneva Rose Mitchell, perform. Life is good.”

In addition to being part of Discovery’s popular Alaska: The Last Frontier, the elder Kilcher has recorded several albums, including his latest with his wife Bonnie, titled Good Old-Fashioned Ways.

Jewel has released two Christmas albums, most recently Let It Snow: A Holiday Collection was released in 2013.

We saw it, but would really like to see it again. I can't find any trace of the thing anywhere! I think it was pretty well done, especially considering that it was put together at the last minute.

Just watched the Jewel Family Christmas Special on the DVR after returning from Christmas trip Home to Ohio. 

Love the show, Jewel is wonderful, Ave Maria was fabulous  the old family photos with Ruth and little Jewel were so lovely, Jewel looks so much like Ruth it is amazing. Kase and Opa (Atz) are so cute. Yodeling song was a nice new addition for Christmas also.
