Only a handful of well-known individuals have pulled off going by only a single name -- Madonna, Beyoncé, Barbie -- but for Jewel, the decision kind of just happened.“It was kind of an accident,” she said in a phone interview last week. “We were toying around with the idea of it and my label had sent some mock-ups of my first album with just the word “Jewel” on it. And I was surfing that day, and I missed -- it was a FedEx envelope that showed up, and they needed the decision, and I just didn't get to the FedEx. And when I came back, they were like, ‘We just pulled the trigger, we had to have an answer.’ ”
