"Hey there, I got my son a filet mignon and lobster dinner and I only ordered myself a side of mash potatoes. Can I have your steak and lobster and you can have my potatoes so my son and I can share a great dinner together?"
It's a flight to Atlanta - there are dozens of them a day from every airport in the USA - the dad could have been more conscious of his reservation. Hell, he probably was, and then he took a single ticket upgrade at check-in to the better seat, and then figured he could tug at someone's heartstrings for another helping of filet. Ugh.
"A lack of preparation on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."
I don't know the real origin of that quote, but I heard it from a brilliant businessman named Norm Mason. Looks like this is a quote Jewel and the poorly prepared father could both benefit from understanding.

EDIT: Turns out I'm not done. Apparently this is a flight where 8A is in first class. I typically fly US Airways where 1st class ends at 7 row, but in this circumstance, the father was trying to get into first class for free!!! What the actual fuck?? That's, like, a $1500 plane ticket on Delta vs. a couple hundred! Unbelievable. UGH!
