Cyndi talks about that in her book. I was in 7th grade when "She's So Unusual" exploded. I was already a Madonna fan and loved Cyndi, too. I never saw them as competitors. They were always so different - music style, personal style, dance style. Everything aside from being women who sang and had funky individual styles. As years went on though, I followed Madonna much closer than I did Cyndi. I'm just now revisiting her and exploring her music.

I remember when it came out.  I was in school (Catholic), and we had to hear all about how sacreligious she was and blah, blah, blah - and burning crosses.  I like the song.  That's about it.  I have isssues with Madonna and how she got her start  :jackoff:

Cyndi, just worked her ass off.  And she's from the hood!

Regardless, they're both accomplished, talented, female artists.  So, I give them both credit for the longevity of their careers.  Especially given how much the industry changed and male dominated it is.

You do! I got the hardcover for $3 on Amazon. I'm only half way through. Gonna take it with me to AC next month in the slight chance of getting it signed. Very slight, but a girl can dream.

I know! Great find.

I have a friend who I'm meeting at the show who is a huge Boy George fan (I met her at a Duran Duran concert a few years ago). She insinuated that she has connections and may be able to get a meet and greet. I'm not pushing it, but would be thrilled with meeting either of them! Fingers crossed!

Aww I was hoping for more than just a yodel from Jewel! I love Cyndi Lauper. Her memoir, At Last, and The Body Acoustic albums are sooooo good. Got to meet her once too!

Life long, Cyndi fan.  I'm going to have to get this CD, today.  I liked it way more than I was expecting.  And duets, with Jewel, Allison Krause, and some others.   :rock: on , Cyndi!

Cyndi didn't really sound like the Cyndi I recognize.  That's not a bad thing in any way - I only really know the pop tracks.  I kinda wonder if the rest of the record is like that.

I'm a child of the 70's & teenager of the 80's. I've posted many a throwback pic of my DD bedroom from high school. I'm very old school w my DD music...all about Seven & the Ragged Tiger for me.

I actually am too!  :lol:

I loved Madonna back in the 80's/early 90's. Lately though she's looking like a hag. She needs to start acting her 57 years, and not wear outfits that reveal massive cleavage and buttcheeks.
