CHICAGO – Jewel Kilcher has a long resume of accomplishments in her 20 year career as a singer/songwriter, producer, actress and poet/author. She has just released a new memoir entitled “Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story,” right next to her new album, “Picking Up the Pieces.” She appeared on behalf of the book at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., presented by Anderson’s Book Shop.

Jewel had modest roots, growing up in Alaska in frontier conditions. After learning the guitar in school, she famously lived in her car while performing in California music venues. After being discovered in 1995 – at age 19 – by manager Inga Vainshtein, she recorded her first album, “Pieces of Me,” at Neil Young’s ranch studio. The disk was a monster hit, eventually selling 12 million copies and spawning hits like “You Were Meant for Me,” “Who Will Save Your Soul,” and “Foolish Games.” She has since released ten albums, including two holiday collections, and has authored eight books.

HollywoodChicago.com photographer Joe Arce was on the scene as Jewel did an acoustic set and signed her new book at North Central College, and shot this Exclusive Portrait.
