Poem of the day
« on: October 23, 2015, 03:11:47 PM »
Distant dances
All break my heart.
Just more chances
To be apart.  :zombie:

I think of the scrutiny
and shrink beneath
its million eyes

has she gained weight?
does blue become her?
is she losing her light?

Never "My I believe her intent is growing, if not her skill"

Never noticing deaths
Misfigured face in perfection or beauty in the awkward struggle of a new direction

We've become fascinated
With the fixed
We possess all the curiosity
of a cul-de-sac
as though the honor lied in the
mastering of the menial
It can not be the end for which we live
That is death,
But for the struggle that keeps us young
Daring to make mistakes
Knowing there are none.

This was always my favorite Jewel Kilcher poem from a Night Without Armor.  Don't know why, it just stuck in my little teenage brain. Maybe I was scared it was prophetic.  My mother was very ... er ... free, and she ended up dying from an STD.  That's probably why.

Sarah Said

i used to screw without condoms
and let the man
come inside me because
i was too shy
to stop him

then i’d go home
and pray on my pillow
please
please
please
don’t let me get pregnant

i couldn’t sleep
or eat
just think
of my 15–year–old life
with a child
PLEASE GOD
DON’T LET ME
GET PREGNANT

then i would bleed
and find relief
until i was at last
at another man’s mercy

an open vessel
whose function it was
to be filled
until my consciousness
could return and
spit out
the bad seeds

I was never promiscuous myself, but damn this one haunted me.

Yowzers.

I haven't read ANWA in ages. I'll have to dig it out!

So sorry to hear about your mum, Jessica.

And I agree with Donna, I hadn't quite remembered the book being as graphic as that. It must have been a good ten years since I last looked through it - will have to pull it out sometime (wait, that almost sounds like an excerpt).

Sorry to hear about your mother Jessica. I can imagine this poem get's stuck in your mind.

I'm also sorry for all the girls and women who feel the way as described in this Poem, it happens way to often. Of course it  has something to do with themselves as well, but above all with men and how they treat women. I'm ashamed for being a man sometimes, they really can be selfish and inconsiderate, or even worse... :(
No longer lend your strenght to that which you wish to be free from.

Thanks, guys.

It was a long time ago - long before they had a vaccine for HPV.

If you know any young girls or have any young girls - get them the HPV vaccine or convince their parents to get it for her!  Cervical cancer is no joke!! Most people are not affected by the virus, but if you are one of the unlucky ones, it can be quick and unforgiving. A girl will have to get it while she's young, too - once she's 27, she can't get it anymore.

I am horrified and disgusted at the backlash against this miracle vaccine.  Smh.

I wrote this in my car today. Now I have to clean it. (The car.)

Even hope
Angel-dusted
Erodes
In the eerie air
of Emptyness

The haze of sleep
Resting the mind

Picture and talk
Feeding the sphere

Though body at rest
Film in mind

Library halls
Lit bright
At night
Shines
From inside

The smells of stale books
As you walk on by...

Think of me. .

My heart grows still

    when you come near;

I never thought

    i'd find you here.
