Things that were new to me:
Jewel's mom took 100 million from her, so she gave her 500k to walk away
Jewel's dad actually beat her a lot - not just emotional abuse
Jewel was suicidal for a while as a teenager in Homer
She is writing another self-help book
Jewel would be big into Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (though it doesn't seem she's ever heard of it technically...) She kinda thinks she came up with it or is the only person who has tried. For the record, Dr. Marsha Linehan came up with it and it's a miracle. The US Government funded her research and we're all much better for it. My brother went through it to calm his suicidal behaviors. It's an intense daily/months long course, but it works. However, to work, it does also require medication and real doctors on staff; at least three or four of them that rotate between patients to prevent burn-out for either the patient or the provider.
If any of Jewel's people are lurking about, definitely refer her to a couple of Dr. Linehan's lectures. DBT is a proven effective treatment for suicidal and parasuicidal behavior and that definitely seems to be where Jewel's mental health focus is pointing. A charity that sets up more clinics for folks with Personality Disorders to attend these structured courses
exactly as designed would save a TON of lives! It was like spinning plates finding a proper one here with an opening and I'm in a big city. But it can't veer off course into ideas that weren't tested and proven.
