Jewel – Here When Gone Lyrics
I am a woman haunted by hands
Even though I'm alone
Traces of palm across my skin
An invisible map of where you've been
It's dry road to Idaho a thirsty tongue across the land
And soil so dry it could swallow an entire man
Took the first road out of town hoping you were just skin deep
But I feel you like some sort of phantom limb
Beside me when I sleep
Cause you are here when gone
You are here when gone
You are here when gone
You are here when gone
I watch another gray day unfold its dusty wings
Sometimes I wish I were more like rocks and stones and things
Sometimes I wish my heart were not like flowers at all
That way I would not get butterflies when you call
Your absence undermines the landscape
Incomplete without your body
Like a pillar holding up the sky
My body thirsty for your touch
There's no use wondering why
Cause you are here when gone
You're here when gone
You are here when gone
You’re here when gone
And some birds abandon their nest
Cause the instinct is too strong to fly
Sometimes I feel like abandoning my guitar and my books
And I'm afraid that I know why
I'm afraid that I know why
Cause you are here when gone
You're here when gone
You are here when gone
You're here when gone
You are here
You are here
You are here
You’re here when gone
Oh, your kiss
lingers
on my lips
It lingers

“Here When Gone,” by Jewel Murray.
“This song was never completed until a couple years ago. I was never happy with it. And even then I wasn’t sure until I got in the studio and figured out this dramatically improved arrangement. Thanks to the chemistry between these musicians and I, this song has finally found its place. The poetry and lyric is very unique to my style of writing. I don't recall hearing anything quite like it before, as it transitions from a sort of haunting groove to a shuffle swing.

Wikiman - I just checked the wiki on this and I think it's "pomade" instead of "Pompeii."
Thoughts?
-
I think it's Pompeii. I was excited to hear she brought it back since it didn't sound like she said it at the Soiree.
Pompeii - invisible map under the volcanic ash?
Pomade sorta makes sense maybe..........? But does a guy rub his hair all over a girl's body? That might be a straight thing cause it don't sound familiar to me. :rofl2:

Considering it follows up with "an invisible map of where you've been" seems like a sneaky way to insinuate oral sex, I thought. It's an old song and Jewel used to be pretty frisky in her lyrics sometimes, so I think it works.
I bet we'll know for sure once we have the album in our hot little hands. ;)

Based on what Alan wrote on Facebook about the liner notes, I have a feeling lyrics may not be included in the booklet.
-
Well, if they're not in the liner notes then they'll most likely be up on the site. All the other albums' lyrics are. :)
-
Wikiman!
That's never what I've heard
-
How do you make Palm into two syllables? There's definitely a second syllable she sings... "Traces of palm, eh? Across my skin, an invisible map of where you've been"
-
"Traces of palm a-cross my skin."
I liked it better our way. :flower:
-
HAHAHA . . I always kinda thought it was "palm a-a-across my skin." But on the album it sounds more like "pom....pei across my skin" Now we know.
-
It totes sounds like Pompeii!!! :w
-
Well, guys have hair like *everywhere*.
Pompeii - invisible map under the volcanic ash?
